Stephen King has done it again, another fine novel by the Master. This book to me was a little different than his norm but it was still awesome. It was a very easy read and I finished it off in a little over 3 hours. I will do my best to give a little review on this book without giving anything away that you won’t already find on the book jacket. Scott, who lives in Castle Rock has an odd occurrence happening to him. He is losing weight at an alarming rate yet you couldn’t tell it by looking at him. He entrusts his secret to a few close friends and even uses it as a way to help others at times since his magical weight loss kind of gives him a type of special power. As the storyline goes on he builds alliances with a young couple that the community disapproves of due to their lifestyle and through his “illness” he finds a way to bring out the best in people that are otherwise hateful and very prejudice. Not wanting to give away the ending all I can say is if this novel ever turns into a movie I cannot wait to see how the producer recreates the ending. Curious to read it yourself? amzn.to/2qaIf4C Now this item I was super excited to get in and I just had to write a review for! I love books but I was running out of room in my library for the traditional bookcases when I came across this beauty and I had to have it. Let me say I was so happy when it arrived a week before it was supposed to, now to get my son to put it together. He laid all the pieces on the floor and went to work. Everything he needed, aside from screwdrivers, was supplied and the instructions were easy to understand. It was fairly simply to put together. It took him roughly 35-40 minutes to get it up and ready for books. It is very sturdy and looks amazing! If I should become worried about it toppling over there is a mechanism that can be attached to the wall and bookcase to avoid that but I see no worries here even with it sitting on carpet. It definitely adds a different style to my library and gives me a place to put the books I tend to use a lot for easy access. I can see many using this as a space saver for CD’s or DVD’s even. This would make a great gift for that friend who lives in a small apartment or is heading off to college.
amzn.to/2IGLgBW I have had this handy little book light for about 2 weeks now and I really enjoy it! I like to spend my evenings out on my swing and I also love to read but hooking up some kind of light to be able to enjoy the night time and reading would only mean attracting bugs. This book light works perfect. It gives me 4 ranges of light to be able to read but it does not seem to be enough to draw the bugs to me. I can attach it right to my book or its flexibility allows me to set it on my nearby table, whatever works best at the time. I also enjoy the ease in which you can charge it. Just pull the light out of the book clamp and plug it into any USB port that will allow for charging. It is really super easy and charges fairly quickly. Since I have had it for just a bit I have found it is handy for other purposes as well. Its nice slim form allows it to easily fit inside of a purse making it a perfect flashlight. And for those of you who like to night crawler hunt, slide it up your shirt sleeve, clamp it to the wrist area, set it on low light and away you go. Also slim enough to fit in a tackle box. Definitely a nifty little light!
amzn.to/2QBwm3D When it comes to reading there is nothing I enjoy better than a story wrote about a true whodunit murder mystery and when I found out that this particular case happened in a town not far from where I live I just had to read it. This book was an easy read and made for a very enjoyable lazy Sunday. If you are an avid reader as I am you can start and finish in one day. I was very impressed with the background that was laid out before we actually got to the mystery, I learned of local things I never knew before. The writer was very in depth in his research and allows many avenues for you to verify his statements. It is quite amazing to think of the paper trail of all the things this lady got away with right under many peoples noses. Without giving the story away I will say that at the end you are still left with the ultimate question of whether or not it was her in the house. It makes a person wonder why now, with DNA and all, if they could not test evidence that was left behind and actually solve that question.
With the huge amount of stress I have been put through for the past year and a half, when I was asked to review this book I honestly thought great, another book to read, like I don’t already have a ton sitting on my dresser that I am currently reading. I have always used reading as a way to de-stress myself, how could this one be any different? Boy was I wrong! This book gave me exercises to help me have a better understanding of where my stress was arising from, and ways in which I could control it right in front of people without them knowing a thing. It helped me to find ways to achieve calm and even prepare myself for stressful events. Because this book is such an easy read I believe it could help anyone looking to decrease the stress of everyday life no matter where it stems from. The quizzes and writing prompts helped me to learn about things that trigger my stress without me even realizing it and the activities aided in reducing my stress in as little as 1 minute at times. Though I have a long way to go in changing my own habits I feel that this book has helped me more than my costly Therapist ever did.
amzn.to/2tpbDW1 This was an interesting read to say the least. If you are a horror or mystery fan and have not read this book yet I suggest you do. To be perfectly honest I am quite surprised that someone has not made it into a movie yet, either that or I could not find a movie with a storyline close to this book. This is a story that is based on real life events that took place in Decatur, Michigan in 1879. According to the story this is a murder that still to this day has yet to be solved. The story is written from the viewpoint of the deceased’s neighbor, James Gordon and the information which he left to a family member, in his own diary. The story is a very easy read and at times may have you questioning a lot of things you believe. I don’t want to give a lot of this book away bit I will say it is very captivating, scary, creep, and most definitely odd at times. You will not find a lot of fluff in this book because the author simply wrote about the experiences James Gordon had in connection with these murders and the events surrounding them. If you are looking to read a book that will capture your attention then this is it.
amzn.to/2DtItce This novel was a very easy and interesting read. I finished it off in a couple of hours. I love to read but nothing irritates me more than grabbing a dictionary numerous times throughout a book to understand the meaning of certain words and I was pleased that this was not the issue here. This story is told from the viewpoint of a teenage boy AND the viewpoint of his German Shepherd dog. I loved this concept! I don't want to give away the story but I do want to say I believe that John Meany may have found an innovative way to inspire youngsters to read more and I look forward to more books like this from him.
